NextGen Leaders 101
I worked in the service industry for forty two years before making my decision to retire and start my website business as a freelance writer and publisher. I wanted to create my own newsletters and content, so that I could connect with an audience on social media like Twitter, Instagram, etc.
I held several leadership positions: Team leader, supervisor, assistant manager and so forth. I always thought that leadership simply meant that you were the boss, and you had surbordinates.
But once I read John Maxwell's book entitled: DEVELOPING THE LEADER WITHIN YOU, I finally got the "revelation" of what a leader should be, and it definitely didn't mean the "Boss." That changed everything about what I thouht I knew working in a leadership position.
Here's a quote from John Maxwell: DEVELOPING THE LEADER WITHIN YOU: "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care."
"This book is a must read for aspiring NextGen Leaders still working in the service industry."
Having read John Maxwell book: "DEVELOPING THE LEADER WITHIN YOU" it change my perspective as a supervisor. I began to see my coworkers as a group of gifted individuals, who I had the priviledge of leading and serving.
DEVELOPING THE LEADER WITHIN YOU: John Maxwell defines "LEVELS OF LEADERSHIP" *The boss drives his workers; the leader coaches them. * The boss depends upon authority; the leader on goodwill. * The boss inspires fear; the leader inspires enthusiasm. *The boss fixate on blaming the breakdown; the leader corrects the breakdown and moves on. *The boss explains how it gets done; the leader demonstrates how it gets done by taking the lead.
John Maxwell define levels of Leadership: Level 2: Permission / Relationships *Possess a genuine love for people. *Make those who work with you more successful. *Love people more than procedures. *Do win-win or don't do it at all. * Include others in your journey. *Deal wisely with difficult people.
Level 3: People Development / Reproduction *Realize that people are your greatest asset. *Place a priority on developing people. *Become a model/example for others to follow. *Expose key leaders to growth opportunities. *Be able to attract other winners/team players to your department.
